Established in 1923 by Irénée du Pont, Sr. (1876-1963), Granogue is a 505-acre cultural landscape in Wilmington, DE which includes a 38,218 sq. ft. colonial revival home built in 1923 and a village of small homes, barns, and a greenhouse.
Expanding upon its ongoing commitment to conservation and environmental preservation, Longwood Gardens acquired Granogue in 2024 to conserve one of the last remaining unprotected pieces of open space in the Brandywine River corridor.
Offering picturesque views of the surrounding Brandywine Valley, much of the property is actively farmed. Longwood at Granogue has leased a portion of the property to a local farmer for corn, soy, hay, and beef production. Large sections of forest, pasture, and meadow are also being preserved. In addition to preservation and conservation of these 505 acres, Longwood also carries on a decades-long tradition of hosting select special events for the community every year from cycling and hiking expeditions to children's nature camps. More plans are underway for future events.
