Join us for a special afternoon as conservation biologist and author Astrid Vargas, speaks on her book, On a Butterfly’s Wing, and her work with endangered species around the globe.
On a Butterfly’s Wing fuses science, art, philosophy, and conservation as it relates the story of La Reme, a flightless butterfly who narrates her life experience from egg to death and beyond. Interwoven with La Reme’s life cycle is the life cycle of Amatxi, a lovely lady who is facing her own death. Both stories are true, and the book serves as a call to action for the protection of butterflies, offering positive suggestions on how we can team up with pollinators to help each other create a better world for both.
“An absolutely delightful book. The concept, the story, and the glorious illustrations are simply wonderful. Thank you wholeheartedly for this meaningful book.”

Astrid Vargas is an award-winning conservation biologist whose work has helped bring some of the world’s most endangered species back from the brink—including the Iberian lynx, North America's black-footed ferret, and Madagascar's golden-crowned sifaka. Her pioneering reintroduction project for the Iberian lynx—widely regarded as one of the greatest conservation comeback stories of our time—recently earned Vargas and her team one of the highest honors from the Geographical Society of Spain.
A passionate believer in the power of inspiration and community to heal ecosystems, Vargas founded Inspiration 4 Action, a creative initiative rooted in collective restoration. Her new book, On a Butterfly’s Wing, celebrates nature’s resilience while blending art, nature, wisdom, and regeneration. This beautiful book has received high praise from groundbreaking conservationists, including Dr. Jane Goodall.
