Grades 9-12
Discovering GIS in the Gardens
Limited to 45 students per program time. Explore how the technology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is used to collect plant record information at a public garden. At Longwood Gardens, plant information and mapping are an extremely important part of the daily operations and management of plant records with over 11,000 taxa. Students will conduct field observations, locate accessioned plants, and enter observational data into the plant records database using mobile mapping methods. Could GIS be a future career for your students?
